Sat 4 August: Coulsdon to Merstham; 6½ miles

SS Peter & Paul, Chaldon: wall paintingA gently hilly walk through woodland and farmland in Surrey, passing the church of St Peter & St Paul in Chaldon, where there is a mediæval wall painting of the Ladder of Salvation (pictured). There will be a meal break after about two and a half miles at the Fox in Coulsdon Common.

The walk, including the meal stop, should take around four and a half  hours. You can download a map and elevation profile here.

You can also look at a map and aerial photograph side by side at the brilliant Where's the path? site, though the route is not marked on that.

Meet at Coulsdon South station at 1038, or on the 1009 Reigate train from platform 16* at Victoria. This train can also be boarded at Clapham Junction (1016, platform 13*) East Croydon (1027, platform 6*) and Purley (1034, platform 4*).  Buy a cheap day return ticket to Merstham, which is the farther station from London.

If you are planning to come on this walk, please click on this Doodle poll link to let me know - this will not be taken as a binding commitment, but does help by letting me know roughly how many people to expect (and where to expect them).
