Sat 11 May: Mortimer to Bramley; 8 miles

Part of the north-east wall, Calleva AtrebatumA fairly flat walk in Berkshire farmland, partly through the remains of the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum.  There will be a lunch break after about four miles at the Calleva Arms in Silchester.

The walk, including the meal stop, should take around five and a half hours. You can download a map and elevation profile here.

You can also look at a map and aerial photograph side by side at the brilliant Where's the path? site, though the route is not marked on that.

Meet at Mortimer station at 0945, or on the 0903 Plymouth train from platform 2* at Paddington, changing at Reading for the train to Mortimer from platform 2* at 0934.  If travelling by train, buy a cheap day return ticket to Bramley, which is the  farther station from London.

If you are planning to come on this walk, please click on this Doodle poll link to let us know - this will not be taken as a binding commitment, but does help by letting us know roughly how many people to expect (and where to expect them).
